Those who know author Kathleen Whitmer from her first book, Green Rubber
Boots, know that she is a cancer survivor. For the Asking was written as the
author waited for a heart transplant made necessary by the harsh
experimental treatment for cancer.
She made this difficult journey by praying, drawing and writing with her
trademark courage, candor and humor. The result is a joyful book that guides
readers deeper into themselves with inspiring stories, prayers and
quotations.
For the Asking is an important book for those who face serious illness or
care for someone who does, as well as those who want to explore or deepen
their faith through prayer.
The cover features an original oil painting by the author, and her drawings
illustrate the interior. Type is set generously large for easy reading by
the ill or elderly.
Watch for Whitmer's next book, to be published in early 2004.

We left the hospital by the same route we had entered. Driving down
Euclid Avenue at 3:00 AM felt surrealistic. We had not shopped or dined.
We had gone for a new heart.

I once thought I needed to make a list of the things I did in a day….No
longer do those lists exist. Now my days are filled with making
memories…happy memories.

Pain surrounds me….How many others are there this night who know pain
personally? Do they reach out to You for help? Help them first, if You
must. I can wait. I can endure. |
