Welcome Emily Bower, Public Relations Assistant

Kleidon & Associates welcomes Emily Bower to its team as a Public Relations Assistant. Originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Emily will be graduating from The University of Akron this spring with a degree in communications. Emily’s other interests include exploring downtown Akron and spending time with friends.

What brought you to Kleidon & Associates?
Ever since I learned what a public relations agency was I’ve wanted to work in one because I thought it would be an environment I’d enjoy working in. When I saw the opening at Kleidon & Associates I was thrilled because it looked like they did really good work, and I liked that their team seemed smaller because I knew I’d have the chance to work closely with everyone, and that I could try my best to really contribute.

What do you love about writing?
I’ve kept a journal since I was about eight years old, so I’ve always turned to writing as a way to help me work though problems I’m facing and to provide me with a sense of clarity about myself and my situation that I can never seem to find when everything is trapped in my head. My favorite thing about copy writing is being able to provide a similar sense of clarity about an event or product to whoever the end user is, and there’s really no better feeling than finding the perfect words to describe whatever it is you’re talking about.

What social media platforms top your list right now?
Snapchat is definitely at the top of my list. It’s a very quick and easy way to contact people.

What favorite brand of yours does it right and why?
I wouldn’t say that Arby’s is a favorite brand of mine, but they just started doing a really creative and really cool social media campaign called #MakeMySandwich. People are tweeting selfies at Arby’s and, using only ingredients from their sandwiches, Arby’s is recreating the photos. All of the recreations I have seen are amazing and I think this is such a funny/creative idea.

What’s your secret talent?
I’m somewhat skilled at learning foreign languages. I’ve been studying French for most of college and I can almost have full conversations with other people.

What’s a little-known fact about you?
I’m kind of a big nerd (that’s not the little-known fact), so much so that I was literally the captain of my high school’s speech and debate team. Some might argue that’s the pinnacle of nerdiness.

When you were a kid, what did you think you would do when you grew up?
I thought I was going to be a pastry chef and open a bakery next door to the video game store my best friend was going to open in Japan.

Three things you can’t live without?
Coffee, good books, Spotify

What brand or organizations would be your dream client — and why?
I think I’d really like working for the National Speech & Debate Association. They’re one of the organizations that most high school speech and debate teams belong to. I attribute my experience with speech and debate to be a large part of what made me who I am today, so I think encouraging to have a similar experience would be awesome.

What are three things you want to learn / learn more about during your internship?
• How to build a social media following from the ground up
• Leaning more about social media analytics
• Becoming a better writer
